This is a 19 slide, highly animated, power point presentations on Environmentalism - The Trans Alaska Pipeline. Each of the presentation slides are editable so you can change it to fit your individual needs.
The Trans-Alaska Pipeline System, running from Prudhoe Bay to the ice-free port on Prince William Sound, southern AK port of Valdez, where the oil could be transferred to tankers, was one of the largest privately financed construction projects ever undertaken.
The result is a steel pipe (a miniature tunnel) running 789 miles in length but only 48 inches in diameter. The movement of oil is boosted by pumping stations situated along its length, ensuring a constant flow of oil at roughly 4 miles per hour. Oil from Prudhoe Bay to Valdez arrives in about 9 days.
Discovery of large petroleum deposits at Prudhoe Bay in AK’s North Slope region in 1958 proved to be an economic bonanza. AK garnered $900 million when the state sold the oil leases in 1969. And the wealth was shared. Personal income tax for residents was abolished in 1980 due to the tremendous profits from oil. But there was more. In 1982, the state government began making an annual oil-dividend payment to every man, woman, and child who lived in the state of AK.
The presentation covers the following:
