Enzymes are "biological catalysts." Which means they are substances produced by living organism and have the ability to increase the rate of a chemical reaction, without being changed, or destroyed, by the chemical reaction that it accelerates. These substances are principally proteins that are our bodies produce. Without them, it would be very difficult to have many of the chemical reactions necessary for our body function.
In this series of 4 classroom activities we will able to learn about the role of enzymes in speeding up reactions, the idea that some enzymes work based on "lock and key" for specific substances, learn about the function of enzyme inside our body to break down and build-up molecules, and how we need enzymes to break down foods during digestion to get the nutrients in the food into our body.
