In this hands-on lab the students use their own hands to model the actions of enzymes at different temperatures. This is a great laboratory activity to introduce enzymes to students.
The students use their own hands to represent enzymes that need to flip over pennies, they then use masking tape to simulate the denaturing that occurs at different temperatures.
The students will record and graph their own data and answer some analysis questions to tie together the new info ration from the beginning and the hands on portion of the activity.
This lab can easy be done in small groups, or as individuals. Combined with inexpensive materials, this makes it a great laboratory activity for home schooled students or students in or out of a traditional classroom.
