This is a creative writing term project. Epistolary writing is telling a story with documents, letters, artifacts, emails and any other informational communication. "The Diary of Anne Frank" is an example of epistolary writing. Student of all levels enjoy this project, and it is easy to differentiate activities for different types of students.
This file contains directions, a rubric, two plot lines, and ten peer response activities for the epistolary entries. It also includes an incomplete project with two sample pages and two continuing pages containing artifacts (for practice.) It is easy for the student to simply continue on with this topic, African American History.
This activity combines research, writing, computer skills, text features, point of view and story elements. The gifted students take off running with it. It is an effective springboard to work with your lower students. To achieve optimum learning gains have students do solo instead of in groups. The group work will come with the peer response. All of your students will be so proud of their accomplishments.
