This product came about because I had students that were struggling to draw their own equal groups pictures as a strategy for multiplication. I use this product in small groups for students to be able to quickly build equal groups as a strategy to solve a multiplication equation.
Cards range from 0-9. There are 9 cards for each number. Pictures are arranged and colored so that students can see that 3s can be broken into 2s and 1s. 7s can be split into 5s and 2s. 8s can be seen as two fours. 4s can be counted as two 2s.
An example of how cards can be used: If a student is working to solve 6 x 8, he/she can find the cards showing 8 objects and lay out 6 cards, then count the total number of objects to determine the product.
Print on cardstock, laminate, and cut apart cards for easy use.
