This exit ticket/mini quiz is a great formative assessment before moving on to more complex equations.
These common core standards apply to this resource:
• 6.EE.1: Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
• 6.EE.2: Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
• 7.EE.4: Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.
• 8.EE.7: Solve linear equations in one variable.
This resource is applicable for grades 6, 7, and 8. I use it at the beginning of the year with my 8th graders. It could also be used for accelerated 5th graders!
