This activity is composed of four different stations. It is intended to be used with students who understand how to find the the center and radius of a circle given various pieces of information, and then write the equation of a circle. This activity is intended to allow students to explore the areas of determining where a point lies in relation to a particular circle and writing the equations of lines tangent to a particular circle. This could also be used as a review activity after all instruction on circles has been completed.
Station 1 - Students determine if a given point is located inside, outside, or on a particular circle.
Station 2 - Students write the equation of a circle that meets various characteristics.
Station 3 - Students write the equation of a line that is tangent to a circle at a given point.
Station 4 (Challenge Station) - Students write the equation of a circle tangent to a particular line that meets particular conditions.
At the bottom of each station are QR codes that students can scan to check their answers. This allows students to check their own work and receive immediate feedback.
The zip file contains a pdf with the four stations (QR codes for student answer checking are included), and an additional pdf with solutions worked out.
