Equivalent Fractions can be tricky as students may ask you, how can two fractions that look totally different be exactly the same??? Well it is entirely possible and students will have the opportunity to find out exactly how with examples of their favorite food – PIZZA!
This is a single Math lesson and lesson plan on Equivalent Fractions that can be used for a 30 minute session for a combined grade 5 and 6 class. This lesson was created using Microsoft Powepoint and can be projected onto a Promethean board or using a projector. The lesson uses illustrative examples such as colored shapes, paper, and even a yummy Pepperoni Pizza example to explain to students how fractions that look very different are equivalent. Content includes: definition, examples, group activity and individual in class questions and take home questions for homework.
I have included coaching notes for this lesson to help you, the teacher, ensure the lesson plan is executed smoothly with step by step instructions on how to conduct the lesson. The coaching notes include answers to each of the questions within the lesson.
Please do provide feedback and I will strive to respond to each and every one of your questions and concerns. Your feedback will help me improve myself and my work to ensure I provide higher quality work in the future.
