This fraction center focuses on finding fractional parts of a set and modeling equivalent fractions. Students imagine they are visiting the Fast and Fit Sandwich Shop and using fry orders to practice fractions. A mixture of veggie fries are served in each container, including russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, zucchini, and mushrooms. There are 32 task cards, each with a word problem containing details about the order. Students figure out the fraction of each type of French fry included in the order.
A work mat (in a half and full page size) consisting of a French fry container and veggie fries make this center a fun, hands-on way for students to work out problems. This center is a real world problem solving experience for students which also encourages critical thinking.

This resource can be used in the following ways:
1. Use as a math center activity during your fractions unit. It will most likely take more than one day during a center rotation for students to complete all problems.
2. Assign as partner work after a lesson. This activity makes a great way for students to collaborate and work problems together.
3. Make available for early finishers who are able to solve problems independently.
4. Use with independent or small group instruction. In this case, you may need more than one set of the work mat and fries.
