This resource contains 20 problems making equivalent fractions and a cryptogram with a rhyme to help students remember the definition of equivalent fractions. Students solve the cryptogram by creating equivalent fractions and then filling in the corresponding number blank with the corresponding letter.
Students will enjoy the end product of the rhyme in the cryptogram and have immediate feedback on whether they got the answer correct based on the numbers present in the cryptogram.
This resource can be used as an early-finisher task, as homework or as part of stations. It is aligned to 3.NF.A.3.B and can be used to build foundation for 4.NF.A.1 and 5.NF.A.1 where students are required to recognize and make equivalent fractions.
The last row of problems is more difficult than just multiplying or dividing by the same number. Students must first simplify or conceptualize the value of the fraction in order to solve. (See thumbnails for specifics)
