What educators are saying

I was looking for a resource that wasn't overwhelming to the kids, but let them see equivalent fractions in a different way. This helped them "see" they were the same.

Description

Help your students practice equivalent fractions (common core standard 3.NF.3) with these start 2 finish puzzles! Your students will be engaged and able to self-check their answers when they complete this fun math center.

What's included?

  • 9 differentiated puzzles for practicing finding the equivalent fraction (the level of difficulty varies per set.)
  • Answer keys are included
  • A Google version so that your students can complete it digitally if you prefer!

This product in use:

  • Students begin with the strip that says "start" and solves the problem on that strip. Then they look for the next strip that has that answer. This continues until they arrive at the "finish" strip.
  • Perfect for small group work, response to intervention, homework, independent work, partner work, whole group activity, early finishers, math centers, and so much more!
  • An engaging and self-checking activity!

Standards

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Explain equivalence of fractions in special cases, and compare fractions by reasoning about their size.
Recognize and generate simple equivalent fractions, (e.g., 1/2 = 2/4, 4/6 = 2/3). Explain why the fractions are equivalent, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
Express whole numbers as fractions, and recognize fractions that are equivalent to whole numbers. Examples: Express 3 in the form 3 = 3/1; recognize that 6/1 = 6; locate 4/4 and 1 at the same point of a number line diagram.
Compare two fractions with the same numerator or the same denominator by reasoning about their size. Recognize that comparisons are valid only when the two fractions refer to the same whole. Record the results of comparisons with the symbols >, =, or <, and justify the conclusions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model.
