This activity was designed to help students to think about equivalent fractions using a real life concept – the analog clock. Below I will share the information that you will find on one of the pages at the beginning of this activity describing how to use this task. Looking at the preview along with reading the information below will help to better understand how to use this activity.
• These cards are color coded and may be used in different ways.
• First Option: all of the same colored cards are matches – for example the green clock cards match to the green fraction cards. There are 6 matching colors in this set so it may be used in a small guided math or intervention group in that way.
• Second option: Each clock of one color matches the same fractional part of clock of all of the other colors so there are six matching clocks for each fraction included in this set. These also match the fractions on the colored cards. There are 72 clock cards with 12 matches. This activity could be included in a center or work station area where students match all 72 cards into 12 categories, then match the fractions to the clock categories.
• There are 2 sets of worksheets included (with answer keys) that can be used for extra practice or for formative assessment.
