Product Description
Okay, I know this appears to be a shameless attempt to cash in on the Thanksgiving Holiday, but I am deeply concerned that many of you loved the idea of your students knowing when they can and when they cannot make an equivalent fraction.

Why you need this activity: many of our students do something peculiar when they learn a new skill - they apply it to every case they see, whether they can use it or not. In this case, I've seen students try to turn the fraction 1/4 into 7ths, even though there is no way it can be done - the most common mistake (and I'm sure you've seen it yourself) is to add 3 to the numerator and denominator.

This activity confronts that issue by giving students a set of fractions that are missing numerators or denominators, but in each set there is a "turkey" that cannot be completed. How cool is that? So not only are they practicing how to do the skill, they are also practicing when they cannot do the skill.

Included in this activity is a set of "do it yourself" sheets where students fill out either the numerator or denominator, and then share it with other students. They are also supposed to include a "turkey" that cannot be completed. PLEASE MAKE SURE THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO DO THESE DIY PROBLEMS!

Finally, if your students make up some cool ones of their own, please send them along to me: I'd love to include them in my set, as well as give them a shout out!
