Equivalent Names for Numbers Graphic Organizer
This graphic organizer assists students in developing number sense, specifically in identifying and recording different ways to name numbers.
Discuss the learning objective; discuss what equivalent means: (Think Aloud: I wonder what “equivalent” means. It starts with the letters “equ”; what other words do I know that start with these three letters? I know; equal! Equal means the same, so equivalent names must mean the same names for numbers.)
Identify a number or have students choose a number within a given range. Students write the chosen number in the top box and complete the graphic organizer to show the number in equivalent ways:
• Tally marks
• Base ten blocks
• Ten frames
• Number words
• Addition facts
• Subtraction facts
