Every Kindergartner loves Eric Carle!
Through the creation of this KinderLit book, children learn an appreciation of Eric Carle as an author and illustrator. They will be exposed to nine stories and characters while experiencing the techniques Eric Carle uses to create the paper used for his illustrations. His books lend themselves to teaching character identification, comparing and contrasting stories and characters, and retelling events in correct sequence.
We give full directions for creating Eric Carle paper and for using that paper to collage the characters from his books. The following characters are included in this set:
⌲ the very hungry caterpillar
⌲ the lonely firefly
⌲ the flower from a tiny seed
⌲ the quiet cricket
⌲ the busy spider
⌲ the grouchy ladybug
⌲ the chameleon
⌲ the ladder that reaches the moon!
⌲ the rooster who is off to see the world
Included are the pages for a writing journal and two other activities!
Your children can write about each of the characters with our new journal! There are three different page formats, one for listing 3 facts - great for beginner writers. The other two sets are for writing a narrative, one with lines and one with dotted lined paper for more experienced writers. Included is an A-B-CDE chant that the children can make into a small book to take home and read. Also there are the directions of how to make a butterfly life cycle head band.
Your students can create their own copy of this book!
Included are all the reproducible blackline masters, full directions, and a color photo page showing the completed pages of the book.
The children create a page a day, using the collage technique. The students follow directions to create the illustration out of construction paper. Included are the complete cutting directions for making circles and ovals from squares and rectangles by trimming off the corners. All you do is cut squares and rectangles on your paper cutter for the pages. The rest is up to the children! Very little teacher time for prepping and no patterns or tracers to create!
There is at least one word on each page for the students to write. We sound the word out together as a class and then the children can copy it from the board or try sounding it out themselves.
When we are finished with the book, we use it at our reading station in place of the published books from our reading program. The children love using their own books and take great pride in them!
