The Erie Canal is covered in most Westward Expansion and Transportation units in social studies. There are two writing activities included in this resource: a word splash creative writing worksheet and an acrostic poem worksheet. A word splash asks students to write a about a particular topic using a certain number of the provided words. This helps focus student writing and make connections. Both of the resources require no prep on your end and already to just PRINT and use!

•Note Page with Teacher copy provided.
•4 Word Summary Worksheet: Students summarize the Erie Canal into 4 main words. Students write a sentence based on these word and share with a classmate.

How to use this resource:
There are many ways to incorporate these activities into your government unit. They can be used as:
•Small Group Activities: Have a small group work together on the worksheet, then go over as a class.
•Review assignments: Preparing for a test or quiz? Students can fill in the worksheet or the fill-in the blank notes.
•Learning Stations: Set up review stations on checks and balances, students can rotate through the stations.
