PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This PPT includes a "Do Now" to help students brainstorm ways which the governor, DeWitt Clinton could have used in order to persuade the public and congress to accept funding for the Erie Canal. It also shares a link to a very good video outlining how the Canal's long-term effects very much outweighed the hefty seven million dollar cost for the time, along with a few comprehension questions. There are also two analysis activities requiring students to dissect a quote by Jefferson and a symbolic reference. And lastly, there is a simple, yet higher level thinking activity at the end of the presentation which offers student two choices on how they can justify the canal's cost in the form of a drawing or a petition.
