Product Description
Students will pretend they just traveled on the Erie Canal and are sending a postcard to a friend or relative. Students will draw a map of the Erie Canal on the front and label significant physical features and cities. On the back of their postcard, students will write their letter to a friend/relative. I have included important questions they will answer in their letter, and easy-to-use websites to find the information. An answer key is included. Please message me if you have any questions.

No textbook is required for this project. I have included websites students will use for all of their information.

Supplies needed for the project:
4X6 index cards
Coloring pencils (optional)

Students will learn the following after completing this project:
Location of the Erie Canal
Two bodies of water that the canal connects
Cities along the canal
Reasons why the Erie Canal was constructed
Goods transported to the East and West
City that became a commercial powerhouse
Accidents that happened along the canal (primary source excerpt)
Invention that will replace canals
