This is an adorable literacy unit that uses the book Ernest's First Easter by Paivi Stalder. AR 2.1 level. The story is about Ernest the Easter Bunny. He is given his very first job this year. His assignment is to hide eggs in a little boys room. He meets a friendly dog who helps him find the perfect hiding place.



This unit includes:

PUT THOSE EGGS IN ORDER-a sequencing activity w/recording sheet

CHARACTERISTICS OF ERNEST THE EASTER BUNNY-a bunny themed bubble chart w/specific questions about Ernest in each bubble.

CHARACTER COMPARISON-a venn diagram to compare/contrast Fred the dog to Ernest the Easter bunny

SETTING CHART-bunny themed chart to fill in about the setting of the story, and how the story would be different if the setting were changed.

MAIN IDEA chart-bunny themed chart to fill in about the main idea and three details about the story.

VOCABULARY CARDS/GAMES--these cards can be used to put on your walls. They can also be used for two games--Rotten Egg (Old Maid Style game) or Match That Egg (memory style game). Simply duplicate the vocabulary cards twice for this game and laminate for sturdiness. Instructions and game posters made for each style game.

TWO PROMPTS WITH BUNNY THEMED HANDWRITING PAPER. Imagine you are the Easter Bunny and it is your first Easter. You are assigned a 7 year old girl named Annie. Make sure to tell about how you felt, how you got into the house, where you hid the eggs, and how she liked the eggs you left her. AND Have your students dye Easter Eggs. Following this activity, have them write to this HOW TO prompt. You just made your own Easter egg. Describe step by step how you made it. Don't leave anything out!

BOOK REVIEW-Students rate the story, decide whether they would recommend the book, tell their favorite part, and explain why they either liked the book/did not like the book.
