Students develop a water erosion solution in this Earth Science project. The STEAM and STEM activity incorporates the engineering design cycle and includes a leveled text. Students use their observations and collected data to write a report on their findings as they aim to protect an eroding creek bed threatening their playground. Writing prompts round out this jammed packed set!

Student Directions Page:
The presented scenario sets students up to create their creek soil preserver.
Data Collection Page:
After students have designed and built their creek soil preserver, they will compare results after pouring water through their model and the control. They will write observations and conclusions on their data collection page.
Engineering Design Cycle Reflection:
Students will reflect about what they did as they worked through each part of the engineering design cycle.
Soil Preserver Report:
Students will complete a one-page report detailing their findings and conclusion.
The grading rubric allows teachers to assess how students used and applied their knowledge of erosion to explain how their solution was created and helps protect the creek bank near the playground.
Science Leveled Passage: Erosion- How Does it Occur in Nature? 3 Leveled Texts
Students will read a leveled passage about three types of erosion- wind, glacier, and water and answer questions based on their understanding.
2 Venn Diagrams:
Students will use data and observation from their erosion STEAM to complete the Venn Diagrams.
4 Informational Writing Prompts:
Students draw on knowledge of erosion gained during the STEAM project and further research to complete the writing tasks.
