The following is an activity to go along with a study on erosion. It pairs two articles and two maps to have students look for evidence to support the claim "Erosion is having a major impact on Cape Cod." Following the literacy activity, there is an engineering activity that allows students to plan, build, test, and revise a structure to reduce erosion. This purchase also includes a short PowerPoint on ways coastline erosion is reduced to show as a part of the engineering project.
This activity pairs with NGSS Standard: MS-ESS2-2. Construct an explanation based on evidence for how geoscience processes have changed Earth’s surface at varying time and spatial scales. It also pairs with engineering standards and Common Core literacy standards.
