This is a hands on lab activity that uses sand to help depict the nature of erosion. This activity is also designed around having students identify landforms including deltas, streams, oxbow lakes, etc.
The lab is explained and attached are 2 student pages that require the students to label, draw, and make predictions that go along with the lab.
By pouring water onto a relatively dry surface (the example given is sand in a baking container, students are able to identify the aspects of weathering (the rain/water breaking apart the rock like surface), erosion due to the water moving the sand/sediment, and deposition when it will begin to exhibit the different land forms.
This activity works great as a lab/simulation and it can also be used as part of science stations.
