In this activity, students use critical thinking skills to examine how healthy foods are according to their nutrition labels. This is a great activity to use during a food unit and also includes cross-curricular content (health).
Included in this resource is a guided evaluation sheet with specific questions for students to answer based on the information in the nutrition facts, as well as nine nutrition labels and ingredient lists for students to use (I asked students to look in their cupboards at home to see if any items had the nutrition facts in Spanish as a way of connecting Spanish to the real world. Note: poptarts and pringles usually have Spanish nutrition facts! These labels were prepared as extras in case students did not bring their own labels in).
I had students work in pairs, but this could certainly be completed individually or in larger groups as well.
