Salut! If you’ve ever had the fun of participating in an Escape Room challenge, you know how engaging and motivating they are. This activity is designed to be a sort of virtual escape room where students are collecting clues and responding to puzzles/questions in order to “escape” (ie. finish the challenge)!
This particular escape room is based on a real-life crime in Québec back in 2012, when millions of dollars of maple syrup was stolen! Throughout the activity, students will learn about why maple syrup is so valuable, why it’s important to Québec and a bit about “La Belle Province” as they try to track down the vile criminals who perpetrated the crime :)
Students will be interacting with this website...feel free to check it out before committing: https://sites.google.com/view/sauvonslesirop/home
Each stage of the quest directs students to a different Google Form that asks them for information that can be found by reading, listening and examining the clues found on the website. The amount and difficulty of the comprehension activities makes this appropriate for Level 3 and higher students. Students can follow the trail of clues individually, in pairs or groups of three and the entire activity can be done easily in the 1-1 classroom or in a computer lab.
Don't worry, your download includes a DETAILED, STEP-BY-STEP answer key that shows the answers and where to find them on the site so you can help struggling students. Hope your students have as much fun with this as mine do!
