This is an exciting review activity based on the popular "escape rooms." Students are given 35 minutes to "escape" from an alien spaceship, using their knowledge about vectors to complete tasks while they race against the clock. Students work together in groups to complete the tasks, and hopefully they can escape! At the end of the 35 minutes, students are given a debrief worksheet to complete. This encourages them to think about and write about what was easy and what was difficult for them during the task. Writing activities such as this one have been shown to improve student outcomes and increases their chances of long-term success in mathematics!
This is a fun and exciting review activity that hits almost all of the buzzwords: engaging from start to finish, requires critical thinking and problem solving, involves student collaboration and teamwork, has differentiation in the form of clues, involves a discussion about growth mindset in the debrief after the lesson…I mean, if that doesn’t make for a great activity, I don’t know what does!
Students will practice:
--Unit Vector (Definition Only)
Included in the download:
--Teacher guide to how to run the escape room with tips for implementation.
--Alien and UFO clipart you can use to decorate your classroom for the day!
--Five tasks for students to complete.
--Clue cards to give in case students need extra help to escape.
--Solutions pages for the teacher.
--"Quick Key" page with all final solutions on one page (makes it easier to check student answers quickly!)
**This lesson requires NO locks or keys or extra expenses. All you have to do is print and make enough copies for your class. If you are handy with google and want to make a digital lock or two, go for it! Otherwise, this download has everything you need to make your escape room!**
