Escape Room Mega Bundle

STEM Quests are escape room missions that involve solving riddles and tasks to find clues to open a locked box. Students work together to find the keywords that lead to the needed information to unlock a lock. For this Quest, the information within the tasks is all about United States Landforms. It’s an Unlock the Box Challenge with a Science-based theme!

Box 1 will be solved by students identifying a set of landforms and organizing their names in ABC order. This will reveal a clue that takes them to a map display of landforms. By finding the clue on the map students can discover the lock code for the first box! After unlocking the box, they are led to Box 2. This one involves solving math problems to cover the next clue- which also leads back to the map display and the box code. Box 3 involves reading and placing events in chronological order based on visits to certain landforms. Solving this task takes them to the map display again and then they can find the final lock code.

You will need three number locks for this quest. Directions are included to use this set without these locks! You will also need three boxes. This can be a plastic or metal toolbox, but any box will work- even a cardboard box! Directions and photos are included for how to set up the boxes and locks or how to use a version without locks.

Included in this resource you will find:

  • Table of contents
  • 3 pages of tips and tricks for setting up everything
  • Map display cards
  • For Box 1- teacher directions with photos, student directions, landform word meaning strips, landform picture cards, and box labels
  • For Box 2- teacher directions with photos, math pages in two versions with answer keys, and box labels
  • For Box 3 – teacher directions with photos, student directions cards, set of four postcards, and box labels
  • Miscellaneous forms include Hint cards for each task, an alternative locking system (made of paper), Certificates to award students completing the task, a bonus task using a doodle map, a Planning Check-off Page
  • All pages are provided in a black and white version. Check the preview to see everything!

And there is more! A STEM Challenge is also included.

The STEM challenge is to build a landform model. A 5-page teacher's guide is included that will take you through the engineering design process. Students will have a constraints page and a lab sheet. A scoring rubric is also included. This challenge is a longer challenge! Plan on it taking at least two class sessions.

This Escape Room was tested with fourth and fifth graders. Some items are provided in two ability levels. Three pages of hints and tips will guide you through using this resource. It’s a highly engaging activity that will create a busy-ness in your classroom that is so much fun. Comments from my students include:
• “I loved the teamwork we had to use.”
• “This was challenging and fun at the same time.”
• “This was like an adventure.”

YOUR PREP: This includes printing, laminating, and cutting out map display cards, box labels, directions cards, landform image cards, and postcards. You will also need to print a math page and any of the miscellaneous extras that are included. Prep for the Escape Room will take at least 30 minutes.
