Description

Is there any such thing as too much practice with irregular past tense verbs? In this game students move from one side of the board to the other by making past tense sentences using irregular verbs. More details about the game are available this blog post.

Set Up:

  1. Print grids, one for every four students.
  2. Laminate grids.
  3. Gather dry erase markers, a different color for each student.

Directions:

Students choose one side from which to start. Only one student may start from any given side.

Students may choose any verb, on their chosen side, from which to start.

On a student’s turn, he/she follows these steps:

  1. Indicate which square you would like to claim. Squares must have at least one side touching a square which already belongs to you.
  2. Use the verb in the square to state a past tense sentence.
  3. If the sentence is grammatically correct, color in the square.

The goal is to reach the opposite side of the grid. The first player to reach the opposite side is the winner.

When the game is over, simply wipe off the dry erase marker, and store for next time.

A digital version of this game is also available.
