Product Description
This is a game modeled after the “Escape Room” idea.

This game is a End of Year Review for 2nd Grade Math, or it could also be fun to do at the beginning of 3rd Grade to review 2nd Grade Concepts.

Students are given a series of 5 tasks that they must solve in order to find the “code” to unlock 5 different locks that are attached to a lock box with some kind of reward inside.

If you do not have lock boxes, you can use the Google form at the link included.

These lock boxes have been BY FAR our kids’ favorite thing we’ve done. It takes a little bit of preparation, but it’s so worth it to hear how excited the kids were and how much fun they had LEARNING!!

The story that students get is as follows:

Dear Student Detectives,

Your teacher was careless to leave a treat for her students out in the classroom for us to lock in a box away from you! HEHEHE! She needs your help to solve the mystery of how to get the box unlocked, so she can give you the treat for your hard work this year.

It is up to you to complete the 5 Tasks to solve each mystery code and unlock each of the locks! Inside the box, you will find the treats, and you will receive the title of Mystery Detectives!

You must put your best problem-solving and collaborating minds together if you want to be successful! Work as a team and take turns writing. Be warned, however, if you do not unlock the box in _____ minutes, you forfeit the reward! Your teacher will set a timer for you! Also...be sure to use any strategies you have learned. We left 3 hints for your teacher that she will share with you if you get stuck. Just raise your hand and give your teacher one of the Hint Cards.

As you unlock a lock, lay it on the LOCK MAT. Please do not play with the locks.

Sincerely,
The Classroom Culprits

To play this game with ACTUAL LOCKS, you will need the following materials:
1 three digit lock
1 directional lock OR another three digit lock--The game will work with either.
1 four digit numerical lock

5 digit letter lock that will spell the word “MONEY”

1 keyed lock
1 invisible ink pen or marker (optional...but makes it more fun)
1 black light (optional...but makes it more fun)
1 hasp lock
1 lock box...We used a tackle box from Walmart.

We spent around \$150 for 5 boxes of materials by buying from Amazon and Walmart.

OR a Breakout EDU kit that can be purchased for \$125 each at:
https://store.breakoutedu.com/products/breakout-edu-kit

If you do not want to buy the locks and the kit, we have made a digital Google Form that students can put their "codes" into to check.

Thank you,
Erica
