This is a fun and engaging way to review various ELA concepts. This activity is similar to a scavenger hunt. You will place clues around the room, and the students will work together to solve the clues and find their next envelope. To open or "unlock" their envelopes, students will need to decipher clues, solve coded messages, and answer questions. For several of the questions, students need to have an answer that matches one on an envelope. If the answers do not match, they can’t open the envelope, and must redo the question. The students can work the questions out on the paper provided. This includes figurative language, parts of speech, capitalization, commas, context clues, etc. I used this for 3rd grade but can be used for 2nd-4th.
You will need medium envelopes (I used manilla envelopes) and smaller envelopes (I used invitation envelopes).
This would also be great for a camping themed day!
