Suggested Use: Once you have finished reading Esperanza Rising with your class, go over the list of topics with your students and have them select one to research. (I recommend having your students work in pairs for this project.) Explain to your students that they will conduct research by getting on a computer, opening the hyperlinks for their topic, and reading the corresponding Internet articles. Students should read at least four Internet articles. Make sure they record their sources on the graphic organizer provided. Before students start working on their PowerPoint presentations, go over the grading rubric with them. Explain that students will be grading each other’s presentations using the rubric. You might also want to demonstrate some of the features of PowerPoint before students attempt to use it.
