This essay marking guide is designed to teach students how to reflect on their essay writing. It allows students to develop analytical skills, reflect on their own writing and the writing of their peers. It helps them to develop proof reading skills and understand the marking criteria that they will be judged against. It also ensures that students use relevant evidence from a range of primary or secondary sources to support their writing. Students should look to use relevant phrases and vocabulary and consider "significance" "judgement" and the 5 Rs (remembrance, revealing, resonance, resulting in change, remarkable)
This resource can be then used further - by getting students to correct their work (after it has been peer / self marked). The students receive their essays and mark schedules back and can then use this to further edit and fix their essay based on the critique.
Teachers can also use these guides as a way to teach essay writing or to model essay writing with exemplar essays.
