This is a folder containing nineteen essay rubrics. Each rubric is a one-page word document. You will be able to change point values to suit the needs of your grading system. There are no prompts in the package because the rubrics here are for use with any book or unit. Again, they are writable word documents, so you can alter them to suit your assignment.
If you are new, even relatively new, to teaching high school English, this collection of rubrics will save you countless hours of rubric creation.
Note: it takes a few years of intensive essay grading to find the right words to describe the elements and nuances of essay writing. Much of what you pay for in this package is the wording of the rubric standards. I'm confident the wording will help you grade and will help your students better understand their scores and writing in general.
I have affixed several common core writing standards from the grades 11-12 writing strand. A brief analysis of the rubrics will illustrate how the standards are demonstrated. You need not leave these standards on the rubric. If you don't teach grades 11-12, or if you don't use common core standards, or if you like your rubrics to not extend beyond one page, simply delete them.
I also offer two complete essay instructions units: Basic and Advanced. Each unit has between 20-35 documents. These rubrics are part of those packages.
