Most students get what they need from the teacher notes on the board or discussion. But sometimes, students need extra help and examples. They need to see the end result so they understand what the beginning AND the end looks like. It helps them with the understanding of what they should do and HOW they should do it.
This essay is written as a "How to" guide for how students need to model their essay formats, citation formats, sentence structure, quotations, paraphrasing, and paragraph specifics. It is written in essay format but each sentence contains valuable information on what should be included and how it should look in the end.
I have found that students with processing disorders or ADHD tend to like this since it gives them a concrete example of what is expected of them.
