Las Preguntas Esenciales:
Students know answers in Spanish. That's easy. Amarillo. Bajo. Bien. But do they know the question that goes along with that answer? Could they have a conversation with a Spanish-speaking native after 1 year in Spanish class? That is what I've been asking myself, which led to the creation of this product: Essential Questions.
This includes 30 questions, including ¿Cómo eres tú? ¿Cómo es usted? ¿Cómo estás tú? ¿Cómo está usted? (Many of these are duplicates such as the ones listed here because of the tú and usted forms.) There is also a template page included without a question, in case there was a specific question that you wanted your students to learn. Additionally, there is a page with room for three questions (but without the self-assessment). I used these for vosotros, ustedes, ellos/ellas questions.
There are spots for students to give the translation as well as a possible response. There is also a place for students to self-assess.
I use it in my classroom as my Junior High Curriculum for a semester (half year) course. Students learn the question (always in the tú and usted form), as well as many possible answers that could go with that question. This leaves them with the skills to at least be able to carry on a conversation with somebody.
This, however could also be used as Spanish 1 review at the end of the year or Spanish 2 review at the beginning of the year. Students should know these questions and answers by then, and so it would be a great way for students to track their progress and memory.
This product has a self assessment aspect as well: The students are given a 25, 50, 75, 100% option. When they first receive the question, translation, and answer, they must do a quick self-assessment on how well they understand the question if they were asked that question tomorrow. Then, as we move on, complete quizzes and tests and such, students can know which questions they really need to study for. This is a fun way for students to gauge their own progress and make their own goals! How fun!
