Reading opens new worlds for our students. It increases their vocabulary and nurtures their imagination and creativity. The core curriculum for English Language Arts states that our students should be reading at least 25 books each year.
The charts that follow were created by Alison Calvi and offer students a fun and organized way to keep track of what they read. You can help motivate them by allowing them to choose a chart that matches their area of interest. You can print them on colored cardstock or allow your students to outline the shapes in their favorite colors. Display completed charts on a bulletin board, adding sheets throughout the year. Encourage students to check the bulletin board for an idea about books that they might want to read next.
