This is an animated power point presentation on English Policies and Actions that lead up to the writing of the Declaration of Independence. The presentation contains 36 slides, all of which are editable.
In the 1760’s, the American colonies lived under British rule, had a great relationship with England, trade was healthy, and the colonies prospered. in the meantime, England had fought a long and victorious war with France and had accumulated a lot of debt that they needed to repay.
To do that, King George and Parliament put aggressive policies and actions in place requiring the colonies to pay a variety of taxes that other British citizens did not have to pay. These new taxes enraged the colonists, who had no representation in Parliament to defend themselves.
As more and more taxes were added the colonists protested and some started to unite to rethink their loyalty to the King. Tensions escalated to the point that the Colonist began to demand tax relief and parliamentary representation. The king ignored their concerns opening the door to the American Revolutionary War.
