The United States has existed just over 230 years. This is a relative brief time as compared to other countries or empires. Its government is unique in both its development and in the way it functions as the world’s greatest representative democracy. As the founding fathers incorporated many of its ideas of government from the best thinkers of its day. Those thinkers wrote them directly into the laws of the land, creating a whole new vocabulary to describe these ideas.
This presentation contains 35 vocabulary words for the student to master. The assignment is to review each of the vocabulary words, be able to diagram the levels, functions, and powers of courts at the state and federal levels and to simulate the trial process and the role of juries in the administration of justice.
The vocabulary words covered include the following:
District Court of Appeals
Florida Circuit Courts
Florida County Courts
Florida Supreme Court Judge
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals
U.S. District Court of Appeals
U.S. Supreme Court
Writ of Certiorari
