This is a story designed for Spanish 1. It focuses on body parts, the verb tener, and some characteristics like friendly, mean, fat, big, and small. I tell this story to my students over the course of a couple days, adding more detail as we retell the story. I print the last two slides in the PowerPoint and make double-sided copies for the students to use.
I use TPRS and have the students draw to demonstrate understanding. As the story progresses, they use their images as the basis for partner and small group retells. If you would like to add more visual support for your students, you can opt to have an artistic and confident volunteer draw on the e-whiteboard as you take your class through each section of the story. (You can even save the images as part of the PowerPoint for future classes if you want. PowerPoint prompts you whether you want to save or discard them when you exit the slide show.)
After we have cycled through the story over the course of two days (in chunks of our block scheduling), the students complete a writing assignment for homework based on their comic.
In the following class, the students choose to use their homework writings or try to retell the story without any help based on their ability level.
We finish the mini-unit with a sequencing activity and a partner reading (a Word file also posted at my store). There are two versions (typical and advanced) for those who want to differentiate based on readiness level.
