When students need a little help with number sense, try using an estimation jar in the classroom! Much like a stuffed animal, the estimation jar becomes a coveted class prize! Students can take this jar home and fill it with whatever they like. When they bring it back to school, students can each place their own guess in a box. The closest guess gets to take it home next.
Soon, students realize that larger items take up more volume, and thus the jar holds fewer of each object.
This bundle includes:
-Explanation Letter to Parents when starting
-Letter to go home with the jar
-Label to put around the Estimation Jar
*Note: I would definitely use a transparent PLASTIC jar-not glass!
