Use these colorful, fun cards in your CLASSROOM or in your SCHOOL LIBRARY to give students practice at estimating. Add pizzazz to your "estimation jar” math games this fall, or plant a new eye-catcher at your library or media center checkout desk. Either way, the students are the winners - they will love estimating how many objects are in the jar!
Place a number of objects (acorns, leaves, mixed nuts in their shells, candy corn, candy pumpkins or small pie pumpkins, one or more ears of harvest corn) into a clear plastic jar. Print the matching Tent Card on card stock, fold it, and place it near the jar in a Math Center or near your library’s checkout station. Make enough copies of the matching Estimation Cards so that each student may have one (these print 10 per page).
After students have recorded their guesses, they may count the objects by 2’s, 3’s, 5’s, and 10’s, and graph the objects’ colors or features. Provide the winner with a small prize, such as a bookmark, pencil, or perhaps even the jar of objects.
This kit includes a PDF printable file of six colorful Tent Cards, each with a matching sheet of Estimation Cards (which print 10 per page). There is a Tent Card/Estimation Card set for: acorns, fall leaves, mixed nuts in their shells, candy corn, candy pumpkins or small pie pumpkins, and one or more ears of harvest corn.
Celebrate autumn with a fun math activity!
