As teachers, we know that students progress through their understanding of mathematics at varying rates. We must recognize the need to differentiate in our classrooms in order to ensure we are meeting the needs of all learners. This differentiated task provides three tiers of learning opportunities for our students who are "Not Quite Ready", "Just Ready", and "Ready to Go". This task provides an estimation pre-assessment and tiered tasks. The pre-assessment will be used to group students based on their readiness to deepen their understanding of estimation strategies. Teachers will give the pre-assessment and then group students into readiness groups based on the results. It is not necessary to have an equal number of students in each group nor is it necessary to utilize all groups. Students should be placed based on their readiness to learn the material.
