How well do your students truly understand when and how to round numbers? Do they know how to use estimation in real-world situations? These word problem error analysis problems will really cause your students to THINK about what they're doing when they round!
Error analysis problems are a great way to check your students' understanding of a concept. Instead of just solving the same problems again and again on a worksheet, they have to use their critical thinking skills to determine where, if anywhere, the example student(s) went wrong. This forces them to think outside of the box and develop a deeper understanding of the WHY behind the procedures and processes.
This download includes eight error analysis problems that practice using rounding and estimation in word problems.
The problems use mixed operations, so students should be familiar with multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition.
On my answer key, I have provided an example of a student response, but other answers may be acceptable as well.
