Students will practice estimation skills while planning a class party. Students make estimates, evaluate others work, and problem solve while having meaningful math discussions. This activity encourages collaboration and discussion of mathematical thinking. It aligns with Common Core Math Standards. The charts that I have provided with each problem help to scaffold learning for your students. I created a duplicate work sheet without the chart for students who need a challenge. The scoring rubric includes a column for students to score themselves before they turn in their work. I hope you and your class enjoy this activity as much as my students have. This lesson has taken three one-hour class periods when I have done it with my classes in the past.
