This is a fun, hands on activity that allows students to practice estimation and measurement. I collected the items listed on this sheet, which are all very common house hold items, and put them into a ziplock baggie for each student in my small group. They had to look at the sheet to see which unit they had to measure each item in, make an estimate of how long they thought the item was then measure to find out the actual length of the object. Students loved getting to use hands on objects that I brought from home to use to measure and it helped connect their learning to real life. After they measure the objects there are a few questions for students to answer. If for some reason you don't have access to the items I have listed on the sheet feel free to e-mail me and I would be happy to send you the word document to edit. Enjoy!
