Looking for a way to engage your students while reading? Looking for a strategy that allows students to visualize what they are reading? Well the Etch-A-Sketch strategy is for you!
The Etch-A-Sketch strategy requires students to pause while reading, create a quick sketch of what they see, and write 2-3 important details/facts that go along with their sketch. This strategy helps improve students’ reading comprehension.
How to Implement:
• While students are reading independently, have them pause either every few pages or at the end of chapters (write the page number on the chart).
• Students do a quick sketch of what happened while they were reading.
• Students write 2-3 important details that match their sketch.
**This file includes the directions to implement this strategy and an Etch-A-Sketch sheet for student use.
