Character Education (CE), Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), and Emotional Intelligence (EI) are proven student-centered approaches to education that integrate the academic, social, emotional, and ethical dimensions of learning. These are integrated approaches to education that improve educational success by helping students manage their emotions, build effective relationships, and work through life's challenges in constructive and ethical ways.
Research links CE, SEL, and EI to better school climate, stronger commitment to learning, fewer negative behaviors, and higher standardized test scores. Through these efforts we are able to create school climates that support the "Dignity for All Students Act (DASA)."
The Ethics and Integrity Unit is one of several units that will enable teachers to design programs that foster a workable set of values, the skills of cooperation, appropriate decision-making, goal setting and high academic expectations. These activities will support the goals and objectives of each district's vision for Character Education, Social and Emotional Learning, Emotional Intelligence, and the Dignity for All Students Act. The activities are based on research-based strategies and skills from renowned institutes for learning.
