This assignment is perfect as a sub plan or maternity leave lesson!
This is a 5 part virtual investigation that guides students through an understanding of how genes are expressed or silenced in eukaryotic cells. The first 4 parts take students to HHMI or the learn.genetics site through University of Utah and they investigate epigenetics, DNA methylation, RNAi, and transcription factors. The last part can be modified to suit the needs of the class but it includes a mini-research assignment on CRISPR using the CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) strategy. If you don't know what CER is check out this Bozeman Science video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KKsLuRPsvU).
