This study guide allows students to practice skills and concepts that will be assessed on the grade 5 end of module 3 assessment in the Eureka Math curriculum. All problem types and foundational skills on the assessment are reviewed here. I reviewed half of this study guide with my students during class time then assigned the rest of the problems (same types we had reviewed) for homework to guide their studying. This guide also clarifies some direction words that may confuse the students on the assessment. Blank fractions are created to be completed.
Problem types are reducing fractions to simplest form (6), converting improper fractions to mixed numbers (6), converting mixed numbers to improper fractions (6), rearranging terms then using mental math as a strategy to solve problems requiring addition and subtraction of fractions (4), and word problems with multiple parts that apply these skills to real world situations (2).
The product also includes a text box to prompt students' thinking about complex, multi-step word problems:
1. Read all parts for the gist.
2. Do a close read of all parts.
3. Record important information.
4. Draw a diagram to show this information.
5. Look for clue words that help you decide what you need to calculate.
6. Solve all parts of the problem.
7. Check to determine if your answer is reasonable.
This product is a Word document to allow for editing and personalization. Page 6 of the document is the answer key.
All problems in this study guide are original work. Eureka Math is a product of Expeditionary Learning and may be accessed for free online. Study guides from several other 5th grade Eureka math tests are already available on my store, and the rest will be posted during the 2017-2018 school year. In the future I will offer a bundle price for the purchase of multiple study guides.
