This study guide allows students to practice skills and concepts that will be assessed on the grade 5 mid-module 1 assessment in the Eureka Math curriculum. All skills on the assessment are reviewed here. I reviewed half of this study guide with my students during class time then assigned the rest of the problems (same types we had reviewed) for homework to guide their test preparation. Sentence frames are provided for problems that require explanation. Blanks are created for answers to be written on.
Problem types included are explaining how the value of digits change when a number is multiplied or divided by a power of ten (8), multiplying/dividing by powers of ten (4 each), representing numbers in standard, word, exponent, and unit forms (12). comparing numbers in various forms (8), ordering decimals (2), rounding to given place values (8), and word problems that apply a combination of all of these skills (2). One word problem asks students to analyze data from a science experiment about the growth of plants measured in centimeters.
The product also includes a text box to prompt students' thinking about complex, multi-step word problems:
1. Read all parts for the gist.
2. Do a close read of all parts.
3. Record important information.
4. Draw a diagram to show this information.
5. Look for clue words that help you decide what you need to calculate.
6. Solve all parts of the problem.
7. Check to determine if your answer is reasonable.
This product is a Word document to allow for editing and personalization. Pages 5 and 6 of the document are the answer key.
All problems in this study guide are original work. Eureka Math is a product of Expeditionary Learning and may be accessed for free online. Study guides from several other 5th grade Eureka math tests are already available on my store, and the rest will be posted before the start of the 2017-2018 school year. In the future I will offer a bundle price for the purchase of multiple study guides.
