This study guide allows students to practice skills and concepts that will be assessed on the grade 5 mid-module 2 assessment in the Eureka Math curriculum. All skills on the assessment are reviewed here. I reviewed half of this study guide with my students during class time then assigned the rest of the problems (same types we had reviewed) for homework to guide their test preparation. A sentence frame is provided for the problem that requires explanation. Blanks are created for all answers to be written on, and area models are drawn. The study guide begins with a text box of clue words that helps students to read and write expressions as well as determine a strategy for word problems.
Problem types included are writing and solving expressions (6), comparing using mental math (4), multiplying using various strategies (2), multiplying whole numbers and decimals using the standard algorithm (6), explaining place value when multiplying (2), and multi-step word problems (3).
The product also includes a text box to prompt students' thinking about complex, multi-step word problems:
1. Read all parts for the gist.
2. Do a close read of all parts.
3. Record important information.
4. Draw a diagram to show this information.
5. Look for clue words that help you decide what you need to calculate.
6. Solve all parts of the problem.
7. Check to determine if your answer is reasonable.
This product is a Word document to allow for editing and personalization. Page 6 of the document is the answer key.
All problems in this study guide are original work. Eureka Math is a product of Expeditionary Learning and may be accessed for free online. Study guides from most other 5th grade Eureka math tests are already available on my store, and the rest will be posted during the 2017-2018 school year. 4th grade study guides are coming soon. In the future I will offer a bundle price for the purchase of multiple files.
